Selecting a Cruise Cabin

Author: admin

Your budget will surely be influenced with the kind of cruise cabin that you select for yourself aboard. You should understand what kind of a cabin you are hiring. It might depend on the year the ship was built, the purpose of its building and the economies of scale enjoyed by the ship in question. The pricing will also depend on the kind of people who normally aboard the ship.

The size of a cabin can be from about 100 sq. feet including the bathroom, to a garden villa at more than 5,000 sq. feet. Another factor which can determine the cost is the number of people who would stay in the cabin. Some can accommodate a maximum of 2 people wile others can take in 3 to 4 people as well, size remaining the same. In such a case, the third and the fourth people get a good discount. Most of them are price-based just by size, but others can differ in other terms as well. A private bathroom facility, color television and a telephone come in the cheapest cabin as well. So make sure you select the right cabin since it your cruise can be spoilt if you have an uncomfortable place to stay put at.

The cabins built in most of the ships today are very stable and ship movements won’t cause you any discomfort whatsoever. However, keep in mind that it won’t be possible for you to get a cabin with a private balcony in the lower part of the ship, so if you have some problems like sea sickness or discomfort of the motion, then let your agent know about this. The motion of the ship will directly depend on the size of the ship, where there will be more motion if the ship is smaller in size. A lower cabin in the middle of the ship will help in such a case.

The lifeboats, equipments and the hull would surely obstruct the view, but some of these obstructed views would become one of great value since they are generally located between a couple of lifeboats and they have a good site line. You can ask your agent for more information on this matter. The windows might be larger or smaller, or those of a standard size. Some of them even open into a verandah. If you have concerns about privacy, then consider this. If you book a stateroom on a promenade deck, then the passers-by from outside the cabin could easily see you inside. Most of the modern ships make use of reflective glasses to minimize this view, but these help mainly during the day, and not much at nights when the room lights are switched on. Some balcony cabins actually allow you to see what’s happening in the balcony below you. If you have issues relating to sleep, then stay away from the cabins near the engines, tenders, discos, anchor, stairwell and the galley.
